Whilst I've been moping around the house snuffling these past few days I have been doing alot of musing about how my work has been developing over the past few months...
Changing my job has been a really life altering thing. Having worked in the same job for about 9 years and pretty much hating it and longing to have the time to be so much more creative was tough. However now I have achieved what I thought was impossible - having a part time day job and spending the rest of my time in the studio - I'm having to re-negotiate my ways of being creative.
My stress and anxiety from all the work pressure has faded away and now I sleep like a baby - I haven't had that for a few years now! But although I consider myself to be a really motivated and hard working person, working on my own from home with no fixed schedule and no one to talk to for long periods of time has been a major adjustment that I'm only now getting my head around. I stumbled across the Zen habits blog a few weeks ago and found it really helpful - so many of the suggestions on there are so simple and blindingly obvious but I guess sometimes you just need someone to actually point things out to you. I realize now that I'm in the process of re-training, kind of like starting a new job and we all have to start somewhere and learn new skills! I've also been really enjoying reading The Dailies over at Design For Mankind and Jan's new studio space posts over at Poppytalk - they've given me a lot of food for thought with regard to studio space and my daily routine and a lot of inspiration too!
How do you keep yourself motivated and inspired throughout the day?
I'll leave you with a great vintage photo find, can't quite explain why I like this so much...I'm off for some cough medicine...:0
