Oh, where does the time go to?

I don't know. It's so hot right now I can hardly bring myself to do anything. We Brits just aren't used to prolonged periods of heat! I'll be back properly when this heat dies down!

Until then I leave you with a new piece called 'Remembering and then forgetting' which will be available in the shop from the beginning of September.

Set it on fire!

I am busy preparing for my show in September, making sure each piece is finished, recorded and packaged before their journeys! I did manage to get out to see Efterklang play the Arts Centre on Monday night and they were absolutely stunning! It's not an easy listening, verse, chorus, verse, chorus type of music, but more of a multi-instrumentalist extravaganza of sound. Check them out above and below for yourselves.

Here's a piece I've been working on for the past couple of days. No title as yet but I'm sure it will come to me. The original sketch for this was a bit more elaborate with a carousel horse type character in also. But he was troublesome so I abandoned that version and plumbed for the bending child alone. Is this a boy or a girl? I'm not sure. Of late I keep trying to bring things (characters) together in my drawings to create a more surreal atmosphere but ultimately I think solitude works best for my figures.

Too big for the scanner but I'm trying to master my photography/photoshop skills - it's not enough to make a print from but I'm getting there. And of course you get to see the full extant of this lovely piece of old box!

Ever wondered what to do with your old tights (pantyhose) once they are full of holes? Send them in to the Ethiopian Tights Appeal over at Tightsplease.

Have a nice weekend. Toodle-pip!

A good day!

Yesterday was a lovely day. The sun wasn't shining but we took a trip out to the town of Holt here in Norfolk. It's one of my favorite places to go for the day, lots of little old shops and galleries to look at and it has the best antique centre that has lots of affordable junk in too. Of course I found some lovely old paper to add to my collection. I found this amazing box, see above. Sadly no before and after pictures as I was too excited to dismantle this item to stop and find the camera!

Inside the box was a load of original packaging bags full of wood shavings and after removing the shavings and taking apart the bags and ironing them I was able to create a whole load of extra sheets to work on - bonus paper, how great is that! These are all pretty big at around A3 size and the texture is almost like leather.

I also picked up a couple of what looks like large waterworks maps from the 20's (a steal at £4 each) the backs of which are lovely, dis-coloured with age and covered in strips of old cellotape - excellent!

All in all a good day, lots of sitting outside having tea and cake too. Has anything really good happened to you so far this week? I suppose I'd better get cracking on some new drawings on these wonderful pieces of paper...

Sssssh!

It's very quiet round here right now...I'm busy finishing off some bits and pieces for a show in September but also getting very excited about some new work! Here's a little peek at some progress from Friday...

I didn't scan in between every layer of paint as I intended but you get the idea. She just about fits on the scanner, when it's finished I will try to take a good photo so you can appreciate the negative space and the lovely piece of card taken from a 1920's cardboard box.

I have updated the Restless Things shop today with an edition of gocco prints titled 'Remember to Breathe'. You may remember them from about a month back but I've only just got around to scanning and listing them up!

I hope the sun is shining wherever you are...I am practically melting...
