sketch 28th september...
Posting may be a little bit this on the ground this week as I am helping out at my day job but I'll post any little drawings as I do them. Have you got anything exciting planned for your week?
Thankfully the neighbors have calmed down now!
Herbert Pfostl has a very interesting flickr page.
Enjoy your week whatever you are up to!

someone make it stop...

Friends, it has been a funny ol' week this week and to round it off today my neighbors are doing aeons of DIY (mainly just banging on the wall) to a soundtrack that consists of Dire Straits and Britney. It doesn't matter where I am in the house I can hear it and it not having quiet to work in just drives me mental. And they are chavs (any brits out there I hope you are feeling my pain).
Maybe next week will be more normal. I hope so.

Thank you kindly...

As you know I love to share my favorite music here on this blog. It is a companion to me both as I work and potter around my home. Between myself and the swede (let it be known from hereafter my 'other half' will be referred to as the swede as being referred to as the 'other half' proved to be a little to traumatizing for him) we have a vast music collection (it has it's own room in the house) that spans an array of genres.
Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Jason Molina, one of my favorite musicians, perform a solo gig here in Norwich. It's something I've waited to experience for a long time and it was an absolute joy to hear. His music is extremely dark and solo recordings often elegantly sparse in sound but his music is nothing short of genius in my book...
Jason Molina :: Get Out, Get Out, Get Out
Songs: Ohia :: Two Blue Lights
Magnolia Electric co. :: Farewell Transmission
I'll leave you to make up your own minds.

Shop update...

A few people have contacted me to ask if I will be selling the sketches I have been working on for the past week or so and I thought I'd make a quick post to say I have been adding them to the Restless Things shop throughout the morning. There are still a few to go but all should be added by the end of today. If I continue with these small, simple drawings (which are a pleasure to make) it is likely that they will be added to the shop on a weekly basis - so keep your eyes peeled!

Olivia in the window...
Good Monday to you!

Brigitte McQueen the lovely owner of Pulp was kind enough to send over a few pictures of the show. It's amazing to see these pieces actually framed (Brigitte offered to have the works framed for me) and up on a wall together. My little studio here at home has almost no wall or floor space so it was hard for me to comprehend how they might look as a body of works.
Somehow it came together despite the moments of wondering what on earth I was trying to achieve and I'm glad I made the necessary changes in my life to allow me to be able to work on shows like these. And I must say that even though I am a black frames kind of a girl these white frames look pretty damn good!? If you'd like to see these drawings in more detail you can cruise through my Drawings: 2008 set on flickr or on my website.
There were a few pieces that were too big for scanning and I struggled to take good photos of them. Does anyone have any hints or tips on photographing artwork they'd like to share? Or know of any good websites with some 'how to' type articles?
Enjoy your day whatever you're up to!

Jinx/obsession
Today, a cold, ugh. And such a lovely warm day it is too - I've even been out to do some gardening. Here's yesterday's drawing, it seems to be turning into a daily activity that I'm really enjoying but I'm not going to jinx it and call it my 'drawing a day' series or anything. How can something so simple be so satisfying? I'm feeling slightly obsessed by straight lines and sat last night drawing these shapes over and over again, today I might paint some with these soft greys and some warm autumnal tones.
Here's an album my other half bought last week and I have become steadily obsessed by...
Denis Jones :: Humdrum Virtue
If you happen to listen to the album scroll through the player to track 3 aptly titled 'Third Song' - it's music for drawing lines to.

Taking it easy...
In the aftermath of making work for the Pulp show I've been finding it hard to be inspired and concentrate on a piece for a period of time. Instead I've been making some quick sketchy drawings inspired by whatever is around me at the time and really enjoying doing so...

Creative soundtrack...
Juana Molina :: Un Dia (This links to a myspace page so TURN YOUR SPEAKERS DOWN! or go here to download the track for free) This lady is amazing live - you wouldn't believe that one person could make so much noise - get to see her if you can.
Soulsavers :: Revival
Hope the sun is shining where you are...

Broken. Lost & Beautiful @ Pulp, Omaha, USA, September 13th - October 12th.

I am pleased to announce that my first solo show, Broken, Lost and Beautiful will be opening at Pulp in Omaha, USA on Friday 12th September featuring a collection of my drawings from the past few months. The opening reception will be from 7-9pm and it would be amazing if you live in the area if you could be there to support my work as alas I cannot be there myself! A selection of these drawings have been uploaded to my website and can be viewed here.
I have my fingers crossed that I will be able to get a few photos from the show before it comes down to share with you all!
In addition, three new prints of drawings from the show have been added to the Restless Things shop here, here and here.

Ha! I think I exhausted myself after last weeks flurry of posts - hence no posts this week. I'm feeling a little strange after working for so long on the pieces for my show at Pulp (opens next week!) and then spending the past month making practically no work at all - I seem to have lost my routine which I had become so accustomed to! When I get out of my routine I get a little grumpy, hopefully next week I will be back to normal.
Anyhoo, just to show that I have at least been thinking about making some new work (and that's half of the job, right?) here's a great find from this week...

...this piece of paper has been laying in the street for a few weeks but I've never had an opportune moment to grab it - until the other day! One of my favorite things to do is iron scrunched up bits of old paper - it's extremely satisfying...
...nice, yes? I thought so.
Have a fabulous weekend!
