Hello!

So tired today I can barely think but here's three of the four pieces I've finished in the past week or so. There's a 4th but she won't fit on the scanner and I haven't been able to get a good picture yet... There was a 5th piece but she got messed up probably beyond repair...

(left-right) Lost for Words, Come to Me, Take a Deep Breath...

Something beautiful I heard this weekend...
Mount Eerie :: Voice In Headphones (via Herohill blog)
Phil Elvrum + Julie Doiron = music heaven. The new album 'Lost Wisdom' is nothing short of stunning.

I'm going to get some air...

Yesterday...

Yesterday, I discovered what some of the buttons on my camera actually do...photos suddenly seem warm and deep and its been fun to play and look around.

Yesterday, Valeda was kind enough to share two of her favorite authors and I thought it was such a simple and lovely idea - why not read someone else's words instead of my ramblings today...

From 'Yesterday' by Agota Kristof (my all time favorite book)...

Yesterday, a familiar wind was blowing. A wind I had come across before.

Spring had come early. I was walking in the wind with a brisk, determined step, as every morning. Yet I wanted to go back to my bed and lie there until the moment when I felt the presence of that thing which is not voice, taste or smell, simply a very vague memory, something from the beyond the borders of memory.

Slowly, the door opened and in a moment of terror my dangling hands felt the soft, silky fur of the tiger.
'Music,' it said. 'Play something! On the violin or the piano. Preferably the piano. Play!'
'I don't know how,' I said. 'I've never played the piano in my whole life, I don't have a piano, I've never had one.'
'In your whole life? Nonsense! Go to the window and play!'
Outside my window there was a forest. I saw the birds gathering on the branches to listen to me playing. I saw the birds. Their little heads tilted and their staring eyes looking right through me.
My music grew louder and louder. It became unbearable.
A dead bird fell from a branch.
The music stopped.
I turned round.
The tiger sat in the middle of the room smiling.
'That's enough for today,' it said. 'You should practice more often.'
'Yes, I promise I will practice. But I'm expecting visitors, you see, if you don't mind. They, these people, might find it strange, you being here, in my house.'
'Of course,' it said with a yawn.
It went out with a supple stride and I double locked the door behind it.
'See you again, ' it called out as it left.

I'll leave you with a lovely sound...Sanso-xtro :: The Last Leaf (excerpt).

See you next week.

There she is...

Finally I have room for my old leather armchair in the studio, this chair belonged to my stepmum's grandmother and is starting to show it's age a little, poor thing.

But it is sooo comfy and on days like these when it's done nothing but pour with rain you need a good armchair like this to curl up in with a big mug of earl grey and take a break, of course with some good tunes in the background...

Grizzly Bear :: Shift (acoustic version)

It's monday...

and I thought I might head out for a wander this morning but instead got excited about a sketch I'm working on...I'm loving sitting at my desk on sunny days...

I was lucky enough to get a copy of the new Gang Gang Dance "Saint Dymphna" album at the weekend and I think it may well be my album of the year and you may also get bored by my going on about it for while...

Gang Gang Dance :: Desert Storm (oh this doesn't work - you need to go to 'free music' in the menu bar and then it's the first track on the page)

...have an open mind about music and enjoy!

time for a change...

So, something that has been bothering me for a while is the way my studio is arranged, and it has to be said that I find some way to rearrange it every six months ago, and it is long overdue. Writing the other day about my plan chest reminded me of how I've been finding this room so overwhelming the past few months, and of how the main issue in the room is in fact this giant plan chest that is in front of the bloody window!

So this morning whilst out on my run - in the glorious sunshine which obviously had some strange effect on my brain - I decided that, yes!, today would be the day of studio changes...

A few hours and some swearing and some tea breaks later...it is done. My desk is now in front of the window and the paper collection is reorganized! I think now it's time for some more tea or a little sleep or something...

If you've got the energy I advise having a look at the drawings of Aidan Koch...

Lost for words...

Slowly but surely I am finishing off a series of drawings I started working on a few weeks back that started life in the daily drawings I've started doing...here's the first one, with a working title of 'Lost For Words'...

And before I forget I really must thank two great blogs to have mentioned my work in the past few weeks, Sfgirlbybay and Dolan Geiman - thank you guys! I am really such a slow coach, as anyone who knows me in real life will tell you, when it comes to following things up eg. emails/texts/calls - apologies to all!

The collection...

A reader (sorry I'm not sure of your name!) asked in the comments from the other day how I keep my work in good condition? The answer of course is that I keep it in the biggest plan chest I could lay my hands on!

When I first set up my studio here at home a couple of years ago I decided to fulfill my dream of owning a really lovely plan chest and after some crazy bidding on ebay I came away with with this almighty A0 40's/50's bad boy - it really does take up half of the room but was worth every penny.

One or two drawers are kept for finished pieces of work and the rest houses the paper collection! It's sorted into various categories such as 'small amounts of text, dedications and titles', 'blank on both sides' and 'children's drawings' - but it has to be said that it's long overdue for re-organizing!

Today I'm off out in the miserable weather to go and hunt for some new old pieces of paper (and maybe do some clothes shopping too!) perhaps I should think about having a good sort out before I bring anymore home!
