on my travels...

...I found this lovely worn leather blotter for £1 whilst out and about this morning. Such a bargain! I'm going to use it to house all of my scribblings...

the good change...

everything is ok...
pencil, watercolor pencil and gouache on book page

I'm not usually much of a sketcher but these past few weeks I've taken to curling up in bed of an evening with my ipod and notebook to do some doodling. I can't remember the last time I drew a sketch and then elaborated on it and made it into a finished piece. I'm a bit more of an 'off the cuff' kind of a gal; it pops into my head and I get straight to work on it. It felt like a good change to my way of working though so maybe I'll do more in the future...

Have you heard the new Grizzly Bear album Veckatimest? Ohhhh....you should!

New in the shop!

A new print in the shop this evening...a previously untitled drawing, cleverly re-named 'nude with butterflies' - can you see what I did there?!

I was experimenting a while back with creating 'sun-prints' on newsprint/butchers' paper. I've always loved how it turns to a lovely golden, aged yellow color when it's been in the sun and thought it might be an idea to cut some stencils and hang a few pieces up in the window and see what happens. I think the neighbors thought I had gone mental with all these random bits of paper stuck in all the windows of the house. It's not an overnight process - the above piece took 2-3 months - and sadly I get bored very quickly so this is the only good result I achieved!

Maybe one day I will get around to making some more when I've learned to have a bit more patience, but for now...a few prints in the shop...

Here's hoping you had a lovely holiday weekend. I spent many a fine hour drawing piles of string which I will no doubt bore you with later in the week!

the last one...

used your light to guide me...

(for enormous tiny art)

The last of my five pieces for the Enormous Tiny Art Show which is only a couple of weeks away now! I really enjoyed making these pieces, so much so that I literally couldn't stop thinking about them the whole time I was working through creating them. These should be available to purchase online and I'll post a link to that info as soon as it's available.

Speaking of purchases the work from the You've Got Light In Your Eyes show is available to buy at Needles and Pens...some definite eye candy there!

Enjoy your long weekend!

stay...

we tried so hard to make you stay...

I've been having a bit of a chill out week this week. Some eating, drinking, mooching, shopping...all the good stuff. Managed to get to see the epic 'synecdoche, new york' today and I highly recommend it. It always feels a little bit decadent going to the cinema during the day...

eta: la

It's been a little quiet around here this week I know. I've been trying to conjure up some magical drawings and I've been trying to get my brain into gear and it just isn't happening. It's been a crappy week, well, two weeks actually, on the creativity front mainly caused by a crushing sensation in my chest! After being told by the doctor that there is absolutely nothing wrong with me I have found that the culprit could well be caffeine. I am now nearly 48 hours cold turkey and the good news is I feel like I can breathe again. The bad news is I need to cut down/cut out caffeine and this makes me very sad! I'm not sure how I will cope.

On the good news/things happening front I am taking part in the above enormous tiny art show next month and will be sharing the pieces I have made for the show here next week...lets hope its a better week!

before and after...

I finally got round to moving my inspiration 'board' (it's actually an old dust sheet with lots of stuff pinned to it) over to my desk. It all seems very busy over there now. It's slightly distracting as I'd got used to such a minimal space but I do love lots of clutter so I'm sure I'll get used to it soon!

Have a good weekend...

the compromise of sleep...

It's May 7th already and I'm just realizing that I haven't yet posted last months top tunes - and I know you are all waiting with bated breath - ha! This month we have music from The Acorn, Kurt Vile, Department of Eagles, Woods, The Twilight Sad, Suckers and a Julianna Barwick mix of a Jack Penate track. It was tough to narrow it down as this month was a busy month for great new albums and discovering new, old ones too. Got any recommendations?

Thanks to those who left comments on the Kevin Drew short film - wasn't it just wonderful?!

A couple of the guys taking part in the Needles and Pens You've Got Light In Your Eyes show have posted some pics from the opening...thanks to Lisa Congdon and John Casey for those!

Put your feet up and enjoy the music, you deserve it.

play for today...

I'm just too tired for anything else other than playing around...

If you've run out of energy today I recommend you make a nice cup of tea and take a few minutes to watch this short film by Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene...The Water...and read some background info on it here.
