could it be?
may i present to you the new Restless General Store HQ?! it's not much to look at right now but it will be pretty soon.
on what seemed like the eternal quest for a studio space i stumbled upon a workshop unit locally that was just too good to pass up but too noisy to use as a studio. my growing collection of vintage goodies is taking over the house at a rate of knots and i've decided to move this arm of the business into its own space and continue to work on my drawings from my peaceful nook at home.
i'm hoping to get some regular posting going on in this space soon too, with lots of new drawings and inspirations to share once i've reclaimed my old drawing space and broken in the new space.
I will do my best to carry my camera with me and share some snaps of things as they progress!

i don't know what's been up with blogger but i haven't been able to post pictures all week! i'm a real visual person myself - what good is a post without pictures? acres of text just puts me off altogether.
the week has completely vanished right before me. after i managed to buy a terrible lot of crap at an auction i had to spend all of time putting it on ebay to get my money back and get this rubbish out of my house! there's not much time left before it starts all over again, it always feels like my week starts on a saturday for some reason, and there's so much to do.
have a fab weekend!

asterisk protagonist
17th august: not looking back
pencil and gouache on book page
notes: drawing at the moment is a slow process but i'm finally feeling that there is some quality coming through and that my language is returning after its hiatus. i chose this piece of paper mainly because of the lone asterisk just under the bust. for me it's the protagonist in this piece.

moments
over the weekend i became the new owner of a vast stamp collection. this morning i spent many an hour sorting through all of the different countries and admiring the shapes, colors and motifs.
so much beautiful fun! no penny blacks though.

general store
i hope you don't mind but I've decided to post a little occasional preview for the Restless General Store in this space here. Trying to manage a separate blog for it was way too much for my brain to handle. i don't want you to feel like I'm trying to sell you stuff; it's more that I particularly enjoy doing the photographs as it gives me a break from incessant thoughts of drawing. the objects i choose for the shop are very much my style and are a nice contrast with the old papers i use and my drawings. it's taking up quite a lot of my spare time so it would be great to show what else i'm up to when i'm not drawing!
NEw print
there's a new print in the shop from today, nothingness, standard size print on Hahnemuhle torchon paper and you can get it here.

4th august: everything that i have ever known
pencil and gouache on book page
notes: something i like to think about a lot when i'm working is truly unquantifiable or unknowable things, like, how many breaths have i taken in my life and how many more are there left, is there alien life out there and more to the point in the case of this drawing: how many things have i ever experienced and either remembered or forgotten. the mind is a curious and wonderful thing and i like to think about the fact that i just can't remember everything and then sometimes, like a waft of freshly mown grass or something, a big wonderful memory washes over you and you haven't experienced that thing in so long and it's such an inconsequential yet momentous thing all at the same time. that's it.
thanks for all of your birthday wishes this week! :)

birthday moments: part two
i took so many pictures on my birthday that i couldn't whittle it down to just a few - so many nice things to see! we walked around narborough hall gardens and ate at their wonderful cafe. the rooms were old fashioned, lit by candles during the day, the china was mismatched and the food simple but wonderful. warm damson bakewell with cream anyone? not to mention that it is run by two young ladies who have yet to make it into their teens - read a great article here and visit if you can.
