bye bye for now

due to complications with shipping items to the usa (where my main customer base resides) i am closing the vintage leg of my business Restless General Store. it was fun for a while but the past few months with endless delays to shipping times has really sapped my time, energy and now my income and I just can't keep spending hours working on it when people in the states (understandably) are completely put off the idea of buying from the uk. january was just a nightmare. no one wants to wait 2 months for a package.

maybe later in the year i may be able to revitalise it...

CLOSING DOWN SALE: get 25% off with the discount code byebyefornow (make sure you add the code at the checkout as I will not be giving refunds after the event!!)   (sale is all done now)

Due to the current problems with shipping items to the united states from the uk i can no longer sustain this part of my business here on etsy. for a short period items will be on sale here after which time i will be gradually moving all items to ebay.

Thanks to everyone who has browsed, bookmarked or bought items from this store; it was fun while it lasted.

17th february: hereafter

notes: just really enjoying the process of drawing this week. feeling refreshed and excited by lines and shapes all over again.

17th february: nothing whatsoever

notes: you might need to click on this one for a better look as it's very pale. thinking about portals, time travel and ufo's again.

16th february: harmonious departure
spray paint and pencil on paper

notes: a slight departure in medium for me at the moment as i've been experimenting with some spray paint. i've been trying to find a way of creating some smoky/foggy diaphanous effects with gouache to no avail and then it dawned on me last week that maybe spray paint is the way forward!

i quickly made up a series of templates to work with and picked out some lovely papers to work on and have been playing around with combinations of templates and layers for the past few days. infinite fun!

i love to sit in the sun and draw. managed to get some nice close up shots of this piece from the other day too.

thinking about the possibilities of moving house and enjoying reading my scandinavian retreat, i'd love a nice bright space like some of these although i don't think our budget will stretch to something that big. i did see a lovely house built around an 1800's railway carriage online this morning - within budget! might have to go see that one as it sounds just too good.

simply paper

15th february: fortuitous opening
spray paint, pencil and sgraffito on paper

notes: i've always written '...on an old book page' or suchlike when i give information on the medium in which i've worked. it's always irritated me for some reason, like, i'm justifying this scruffy piece of paper and giving it a fancy name. i don't really care what people think of my organic drawings so from hereon in it will simply be known as 'paper'.

14th february: restored
spray paint and sgraffito on an old paperback book cover

notes: i think sgraffito is technically a ceramics term, but i'm gonna use it to refer to scratch marks in my drawings cos i like the word! sadly the scan doesn't quite catch the nice fogginess of this piece...

repeat repeat

i was a little dubious about the new pj harvey album 'let england shake', i was a massive follower for years but really struggled to get my head around the last few albums. but i love it. it's been on repeat in the studio all day and i was quite excited to find these fab videos which accompany three of my favorite tracks! enjoy :)

finally, I got around to updating my website with more recent work. i've been meaning to do this for months but the work is quite laborious and i really have to be in the mood for editing html. it's a selection of my favorite pieces from over the past twelve months and i really love how they look in this grid formation. i've you have a moment you can take a peek over here.

me and the mister had a little day out during the week to the seaside. all we've done is work, work, work for what feels like months so it was refreshing to say the least. scampi and chips and a nice long walk.

whilst we were out I made a few more short films similar to those I made last year. it made me revisit the ones that i hadn't got around to editing before so there will be some filmy posts coming up over the next week.

part of the reason for our day out is also because we are house hunting! it's official, we are looking for a house of our very own. we are searching for something out in the sticks with a large outside space and room enough for three businesses. character required. so this blog space may turn into a bit of a house/decor blog too. fun!

today i cleared my desk, laid out all of my favorite drawing equipment and selected some nice pieces of paper to work with. it feels good to be working at this nice slow pace again.
